Quota and Indian Politics
Published on April 5th, 2007 In Uncategorized, Politics |  Views 401

The quota issue is becoming trickier and the latest to join the bandwagon is the tamilnadu government which has proclaimed to give quota to the minorities. Is it really a just stand or vote bank politics?

It is another political gimmick and the politicians are shameless to do anything for appeasing minorities to get votes.  Thank God we have a sane supreme court which raps on the knuckles of the politicians when something like this happens.  No wonder our politicians criticise the courts and its verdicts when it is unfavourable for them and call for bandhs.

Do minorities really need quotas?  Already we have minority institutions (where government seats are virtually zero) for the welfare of the minorities and their upbringing.  Why then the quotas?  Were they depressed or deprieved of opportunities as is the case with SC/ST?

Is the decision taken by the elected government not fit for judicial review as is claimed by Arcot Veerasamy, MK and more recently communists.  What should be done to governments that organise bandhs?

    Kumar,

Definitely, this quote is not considering any social upliftment issues. It is sheer vote bank politics. Remember, when they say, you get 35% and you are through to the next stage, they are doing two things. 1) The standard it totally lost. 2) The beneficiaries will limit themselves to 35% and so they will not be completely literate and hence they will not understand the evil designs of the politicians. Afterall, if everyone become literate completely, the politicians cannot fool around, isnt it?

And quota for minorities is the most atrocious one.

I wish all our politicians who support this quota, should get treated only from those doctors, who became a doctor, through quota, by taking just pass marks. And a law should immediately be passed to this effect. Then let us see, what these guys say about the quota.

This topic, has the potential of being another long debated one.

    Regards,
    Venkatesh

So how much more % is going to be added to the already existing 69% reservation. Think it should reach somewhere around 80% now even if both of them get 5% each.

And will the minorities are entitled to the already existing one along with this or will be excluded from the 69% as they have a separate reservation now. Any idea?

Absolutely none. We will have to wait and see. But the fact is that the comission’s finding were never tabled in the Assembly, as 14 members of the comission did not agree to this. So it is again clear that MK is doing this only to play the famous Vote Bank Politics.

The following articles that appear in this website really gives the much needed insight into this issue when the major dailies are totally silent on this issue and toeing the same line without analysing the issue in total.

seems everybody agrees to the fact that the reservation put forth by the political parties is just a poll gimmick and is farce

Of course! Is there a doubt in it.

But this stupidity thrives only in TN.
